Scriptures on Baptism
Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in
the Jordan River.
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be
baptized by John.
But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"
As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the
water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of
God descending like a dove and lighting on him.
The whole Judean countryside and all the people of
Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were
baptized by him in the Jordan River.
At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was
baptized by John in the Jordan.
"You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said. "Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?"
"We can," they answered. Jesus said to them, "You
will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I
am baptized with,
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved,
but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized
by him, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming
wrath? When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened
(All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard
Jesus' words, acknowledged that God's way was right, because they
had been baptized by John.
But the Pharisees and experts in the law rejected God's
purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by
John.)
John 3: 5 JESUS answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of GOD unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the
Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and
baptized.
Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was
plenty of water, and people were constantly coming to be baptized.
although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but his
disciples.
For John baptized with[ 1:5 Or in] water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.
Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul's eyes,
and he could see again. He got up and was baptized,
"Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with
water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have."
So he ordered that they be baptized in the
name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a
few days.
Then I remembered what the Lord had said: 'John baptized
with[ 11:16 Or in] water, but you will be baptized with the
Holy Spirit.'
When she and the members of her household were
baptized, she invited us to her home. "If you consider me a
believer in the Lord," she said, "come and stay at my house." And
she persuaded us.
At that hour of the night the jailer took them and
washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his family were
baptized.
Crispus, the synagogue ruler, and his entire household believed in
the Lord; and many of the Corinthians who heard him believed and
were baptized.
On hearing this, they were baptized into[ 19:5 Or
in] the name of the Lord Jesus.
And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized
and wash your sins away, calling on his name.'
Or don't you know that all of us who were
baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for
you? Were you baptized into[ 1:13 Or in; also in verse 15]
the name of Paul?
so no one can say that you were baptized
into my name.
(Yes, I also baptized the household of
Stephanas; beyond that, I don't remember if I baptized anyone
else.)
They were all baptized into Moses in
the cloud and in the sea.
For we were all baptized by[ 12:13 Or
with; or in] one Spirit into one body–whether Jews or Greeks, slave
or free–and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
Now if there is no resurrection, what will
those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not
raised at all, why are people baptized for them?
for all of you who were baptized into
Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
